An Overview of Gender and Sex

Multi Color Hairstyle_edited.jpg

Though often used as interchangeable terms, 'gender' and 'sex' have two different meanings, making their confusion for one another dangerous when it comes to law making and actions in the United States of America. While they may seem similar to one another, those who are not educated on these terms have been actively mixing up their meanings, and have been solely taking about 'sex' while saying 'gender' and vice versa. This common confusion can lead to unnecessary and cruel homophobia, transphobia, physical violence, and an array of mental health problems for those who are directly affected (which are primarily those in the LGBTQ+ community).
